One of the big benefits of using the EXF Rings is the new eBook that we wrote just for you. It is written to help you get the most out of your rings. It assumes you are not a competitive gymnast and provides you with a roadmap for achieving the muscle-up. It is actually the most detailed tutorial you will find anywhere on this very important exercise. Most coaches are teaching it wrong. They don't understand the mechanics of the movement or how to teach it. If you think the transition is tough, then read this book. It will make getting above the rings painless and (almost) easy.

The book is illustrated with over 100 photos, showing each movement from the front and side. Here is some of the stuff you will find inside the book:

  • 7 Basic exercises, the foundation of ring training
  • 3 ways to modify resistance, the key to making progress
  • the Muscle-Up and 7 ways to make it easier
  • learn why an incorrect "false grip" is like trying to max squat from the balls of your feet...bad idea
  • 9 progression exercises for the muscle-up, including one I HATE (Hint: It's the most common one being taught!)
  • Why flexibility makes the muscle-up easier and how to get it
  • 5 unique training strategies for different goals
  • How to create your own training plan
  • How to integrate ring training with your fitness program, such as CrossFit
  • 10 tips for getting the most out of your ring training
  • How to set up the EXF Rings

Ring Training for Elite Fitness is progression-based, so it doesn't matter how strong you are. You can start from anywhere and work your way up to the muscle-up and beyond. The key is finding all of the steps in between and we help you with that. Instead of relying on a coach to walk you through step by step, you will learn how to create your own path from Point A to Point B. With this knowledge, you can reach any goal you want.

One of the keys is using the principles of physics. Our entire approach is based on using physics and the mechanics of the human body in order to make your efforts more efficient. Many years ago, I learned the muscle-up by brute force. I didn't have any coaching and this is how it was taught back then. After my first muscle-up, I had elbow pain for a week. Even though I had enough strength on day one, it still took several months before I finally got it. If you have the correct preparation and efficient technique, you can get the muscle-up pain-free and much quicker than I did. There is a lot of advice floating around about how to train for the muscle-up, but sadly, most of it is wrong. One great source is the free tutorial here: the Muscle-Up, written by Jim Bathhurst. He covers some stuff that I don't cover in the book, so it's worth reading.

We are very happy to announce that our Ring Training for Elite Fitness e-book is now available. We have sent out copies to everyone who has purchased the EXF Rings. It is available as a free, instant download to anyone who buys a set of EXF Rings. It will also be sold separately for $71.95, and it will include a free set of EXF Rings! (That's a joke, btw.) The guide came in at just over 100 pages and includes the most in-depth muscle-up tutorial ever written. If you haven't mastered this exercise, then you better get this book. And the new multi-textured surface of the EXF Rings will help a lot too. If you have previously purchased the EXF Rings and did not receive an e-mail notifying you to download your guide, then please check your spam folder and then e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. I just posted online a guide to setting up the EXF Rings. Pro rock climber Timy Fairfield offered to do a video to help other customers and he did a great job of explaining how to use all of the features of the new EXF Mounting System. You can check it out here, EXF Rings Mounting Guide. The video is pretty long, but very thorough and he did a few cool moves for the intro video.

Doorway Mounting the EXF Rings from Tyler Hass on Vimeo.

If you live in an apartment or are a frequent traveler, you'll love this new feature of the new EXF Rings. The new S-Buckles can function as a door anchor! You can just place each S-buckle behind a door and then shut it. The S-buckles will stay on the other side and prevent the straps from sliding back through. And the straps are still completely adjustable. I have used them for a couple months and so far, I haven't noticed any damage to my door frame.
A lot of great exercises can be done with this configuration. Body rows, assisted crosses, jackknife pushups and many other exercises can be done in a door frame. I made a short video that shows some possibilities. Obviously this is not the optimal set-up for all times. But you can still do high-quality workouts. This is not just a gimmick. There is some serious training to be had here.

EXF Rings 5 second setup from Tyler Hass on Vimeo.

For the new EXF Rings, the set up process is one of the things we've given the most thought to. Our goal was to create a set of rings that could be set up in under a minute. We completely re-imagined the process and the result is an entirely new mounting system. Since the rings are portable, a lot of people take them down and then set them back up before each workout. Many people didn't like the fact that it took several minutes before they could start their workout. You had to spend a minute threading the straps through the buckles. And then more time leveling the rings. Not anymore! With the new design, we've eliminated both steps. All you need to do now is place the straps over the mounting surface and then use the new S-buckle to attach the strap back onto itself. It takes only a few seconds and will hold securely under the highest loads imaginable.
In our testing, we did everything we could think of to make this thing fail. We did have concerns. Sudden shifts in load, severe lateral loading, shock forces, etc. Nothing even fazed it! If you call something idiot-proof, someone will come up with a better idiot. But I think this is about as close as that gets. A few weeks ago, I found out the hard way that it's not possible to get the strap out without touching the buckle. I set them up over a swingset and at the end of my workout, I couldn't get them down. I had to climb up the side of the swingset and shimmy over to the straps to release the S-buckles. I was actually pretty happy that it was this difficult.
If you are attaching them overhead and you will need to take them down latter, you basically need a ladder or some way to reach the S-buckle. OR, you can still operate the EXF Rings straps in "legacy mode". When you do this, you don't actually use the S-buckle. Instead, you remove the strap from the cam buckle (the lever with teeth on it), throw it over the mounting surface and then run it back through the cam buckle. It's the same as with the Elite Rings II and all others out there. So, if you are training at the park or on a tree, you'll still be able to use the new straps.
Lastly, another nice thing is that when you take them down, you don't lose the height adjustment that you had been using. So, if you were doing dips in your last workout. The next time you set them up, they will still be at the exact same height you were previously using. This is a big time saver, especially if you run a gym and need to quickly get group classes up and running.
